MP PSARA License Processing Time: Application to Approval
Quick answer: MP PSARA license processing time usually runs about 60–90 days in practice from a complete submission to approval, though there is no fixed statutory period. The file moves through scrutiny, a letter for police verification, verification of persons and office, query replies if any, and the Controller's final decision. Verification and queries cause most of the variation.
Knowing the total MP PSARA license processing time is useful, but knowing what is happening inside that period is more useful. When you know which stage your file is in, you know what to do next and when to worry. This article maps the journey from the moment you click submit to the moment the licence is issued, and lists the applicant's job at each stage.
The journey in seven stages
| # | Stage | Who acts | Applicant's job |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Submission and fee payment | Applicant | Upload a complete file, pay the slab fee, save receipt |
| 2 | Initial scrutiny | Controlling Authority | Check the portal; keep originals ready |
| 3 | Letter for police verification | Controller of PSARA, MP | Note the reference; inform all persons |
| 4 | Verification of persons | Police | Be available at the stated address with IDs |
| 5 | Verification of office | Police | Keep office open, staffed and branded |
| 6 | Query and re-submission (if any) | Authority, then applicant | Reply completely and quickly |
| 7 | Decision and licence | Controller of PSARA, MP | Download licence; start compliance |
Stage-by-stage detail
Stage 1: Submission
Processing time effectively starts here. Before this point you have checked the name on the PSARA portal, prepared every document as per the MP guideline, created a profile on the official PSARA portal, filled the form and uploaded files. Paying the government fee – ₹5,000, ₹10,000 or ₹25,000 depending on area – completes submission. Download the submitted application as a PDF.
Stage 2: Initial scrutiny
The authority checks whether the file is complete and consistent. This is where clean uploads pay off. If something is missing, you may receive a query now rather than later.
Stage 3: Letter for police verification
The Controller issues a letter for police verification of the proprietor, or of all partners or directors, and of the office. From this point, the timeline depends heavily on how many persons are involved and where they live.
Stage 4: Verification of persons
Police verify the antecedents of each person named. A proprietorship has one; a company with four directors has four. Persons should be reachable on their registered mobile numbers and present when contacted. Keep photo ID, address proof and the application copy at hand.
Stage 5: Verification of office
The MP business place you declared is verified. The office should match your rent agreement or ownership document, show your banner outside and look operational inside. If the office is closed at the time of the visit, a repeat visit may be needed.
Stage 6: Queries
A query can appear at any point. You log in, read it, reply with the required documents and re-submit. The file waits until you do, so this stage is where applicants most often add avoidable weeks.
Stage 7: Decision
After successful police verification of office and owner, partners or directors, the Controller issues the licence if everything is in order. The licence is valid for five years unless cancelled.
What stretches each stage
- Stages 1–2: incomplete entity-specific documents, unclear scans, missing affidavits.
- Stage 3: workload at the authority – outside your control.
- Stage 4: many persons, persons living outside MP, unreachable phones.
- Stage 5: office not ready, address mismatch, no signboard.
- Stage 6: slow or partial replies.
Same stages, different shapes: two examples
The seven stages are the same for every applicant, but their length varies with the profile:
| Factor | Bhopal proprietorship, one district | Company with four directors, statewide |
|---|---|---|
| Persons to verify | One | Four, possibly in different cities |
| Document volume | Personal plus proprietorship list | Directors' documents plus MOA, AOA, affidavits of all directors |
| Chance of a query | Lower with a clean file | Higher, simply because there is more to check |
| Likely position in the range | Nearer the shorter end | Nearer the longer end |
Neither profile is "better"; the point is to set expectations that match your structure. If you are a multi-director company, plan director availability for verification before you file, and keep one person responsible for tracking the portal.
How to read "pending" on the portal
A pending status usually means the file is with the authority or the police. It is not, by itself, a problem. Check whether any query is open; if none is, the right action is usually to stay ready rather than re-upload documents. Our guide on pending MP PSARA applications covers what to do if a file stays pending unusually long, and checking status online explains the portal view.
After approval: the clock that starts next
The day the licence is issued, two new timelines begin. First, compliance: you must deploy only trained, verified guards aged 18–65 and maintain records – our yearly compliance service helps here. Second, renewal: the licence runs for five years and renewal must be applied for at least 45 days before expiry. Put the expiry date in your calendar on day one, with a reminder about 90 days before.
Keep the full application PDF, fee receipt and the licence together. You will need them at renewal and whenever a client asks for proof of licence.
The official Act is available on India Code. For help at any stage – filing, verification readiness or query replies – see our MP PSARA registration process page or call us.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which stage of MP PSARA processing takes the longest?
In practice, police verification of persons and office, along with any query-and-reply cycles, usually takes the most time. The number of partners or directors, where they live, and whether the office is ready during the visit all affect how long verification takes for a particular application.
Can I edit my application after submission?
Generally you correct or add information when the authority raises a query, by replying and re-submitting through the portal. Avoid making uninvited changes. If you notice a serious error yourself after submission, get advice on the correct way to handle it before taking any action.
Do I need to visit the PSARA office during processing?
The application, fee payment, queries and licence are handled through the online portal, and police verification happens at your persons' addresses and office. A visit is not normally part of the routine process, but follow any specific instruction you receive from the authority.
Is processing time different for renewal applications?
Renewals also go through scrutiny and can take time, which is why the Act requires the renewal application at least 45 days before expiry. We advise starting preparation 60 to 90 days before expiry so the file is submitted comfortably within time.
