How Many Days Does MP PSARA License Approval Take?
Quick answer: There is no fixed statutory deadline, but in practice MP PSARA license approval usually takes about 60–90 days from a complete online submission. Most of that time goes into police verification of the owner, partners or directors and the office, and into query replies. Preparation before filing is extra and depends on how ready your documents are.
"How many days?" is the first question almost every applicant asks us, usually because a client contract or tender is waiting. The honest answer for MP PSARA license approval days is a range, not a date. This article explains why, splits the journey into the days you control and the days you do not, and helps you set a realistic launch plan.
Why no one can promise an exact number of days
The Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act, 2005 does not set a fixed number of days within which the Controlling Authority must decide a licence application. The decision depends on scrutiny of your file and on police verification, which is carried out by the police for each person and for the office. Because those steps involve different offices and workloads, timelines differ between applicants and even between districts. Status updates and queries appear in your account on the official PSARA portal.
Treat any promise of approval "in 15 days" with caution. A consultant can make your file faster to process, but cannot control verification or the authority's schedule.
Two clocks: before filing and after filing
Clock 1 – Preparation (in your control)
This starts when you decide to apply and ends when you click submit. It includes:
- Checking the agency name on the PSARA portal and avoiding barred words such as DETECTIVE, SURVEILLANCE or LABOUR SUPPLIER.
- Setting up an MP office with rent agreement, banner and photographs.
- Getting Shop Act, GST, EPF and ESIC registrations if you do not have them.
- Completing the owner's or partners' training certificate and signing an MoU with a registered training institute.
- Preparing uniform, ID card, affidavits and all formats.
An applicant who already has every registration can finish this in days. One starting from zero may need several weeks.
Clock 2 – Processing (mostly outside your control)
This starts at submission and ends with the licence. In practice, it commonly runs about 60–90 days and covers scrutiny, the letter for police verification, the verification itself, any portal queries, and the final decision.
Where the days usually go
| Stage after submission | What decides the speed | Your influence |
|---|---|---|
| Initial scrutiny | Completeness and clarity of uploads | High – clean, legible documents |
| Letter for police verification | Authority's processing | Low |
| Police verification of persons | Number of persons, addresses, availability | Medium – be reachable, keep documents ready |
| Police verification of office | Office being genuine and open | Medium – keep office staffed and signboard up |
| Query and re-submission | How fast you reply and how complete the reply is | High |
| Final decision and licence | Authority's review of verification reports | Low |
What makes approval take longer than usual
- More persons to verify. A company with four directors in different cities has four verifications to complete.
- Directors or partners living outside MP. Verification at their residential address can involve police in another area.
- Queries left unanswered. The file effectively waits until you log in, reply and re-submit.
- Office not found ready. A locked or empty office at the time of verification can mean a repeat visit.
- Mismatched details. Different spellings or addresses across Aadhaar, PAN, rent agreement and GST.
- Missing training certificate for one partner or director. Every partner or director needs one.
Planning your launch around the timeline
- Add both clocks. Preparation time plus a processing window of roughly 60–90 days gives your earliest realistic start date.
- Do not sign deployment dates you cannot meet. You cannot provide guards before the licence is issued; Section 20 of the Act allows a fine up to ₹25,000, imprisonment up to one year, or both.
- Use the waiting time well. Recruit and get guards trained through your MoU institute, prepare uniforms, and set up payroll for EPF and ESIC.
- Check the portal often. Queries appear on the portal; a weekly login at minimum is a good habit.

An illustrative timeline for a prepared applicant
To make the range concrete, here is how a well-prepared single-district proprietorship might move. These are indicative phases, not promises:
- Week 1: name check, document review, affidavits drafted and notarised, portal profile created.
- Week 2: form completed, documents uploaded, government fee paid and application submitted.
- Weeks 3 to 6: initial scrutiny and the Controller's letter for police verification.
- Weeks 6 to 10: police verification of the proprietor and the office; a portal query, if any, replied to within a day or two.
- Weeks 10 to 13: verification reports reviewed and the licence issued if everything is in order.
A partnership with several partners, or a company whose directors live outside MP, should expect the verification phase to stretch. An applicant who leaves a query unanswered for three weeks simply adds three weeks. The applicant who prepares well usually lands near the shorter end of the range.
What about renewals?
Renewals also involve scrutiny and can take time, which is exactly why the Act asks you to apply at least 45 days before expiry. We recommend starting renewal preparation 60–90 days before the expiry date. Details are on our MP PSARA license renewal page.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can MP PSARA approval be done in less than 30 days?
It can happen in some cases, but it should not be expected. Approval depends on scrutiny and police verification of every person and the office, which no applicant controls. Plan for roughly 60 to 90 days in practice and treat an earlier approval as a bonus rather than a plan.
Does the clock start when I create my portal profile?
No. Creating a profile is only the start of filing. Practical processing begins after you complete the form, upload documents, pay the government fee and submit the application. Time spent preparing documents before submission is separate and depends on how ready you are.
Will applying for the whole state take longer than one district?
The area of operation mainly changes the government fee slab. Processing time is driven more by the number of persons to be verified, the office verification and how quickly queries are answered. A clean file for the entire state can move faster than an incomplete file for one district.
How will I know when my licence is approved?
Status updates and any queries appear in your account on the PSARA portal, so log in regularly. Once the Controlling Authority issues the licence, it is available through the portal. Keep the registered mobile number and email active so you do not miss communications.
